Calgary police have identified the body recently found in the Bow River as 56-year-old Sandra Mykytiuk-Evans.

Her daughter, Ashley Van Winkle, told CBC News that the family is devastated but thankful to police and search and rescue teams for their efforts.

"We just have been overwhelmed with the amount of support and compassion we've been receiving over the last few months," she said.

Police were called to the banks of the river near Inglewood around 12:30 p.m. MT on Wednesday after a fisherman spotted the body.

"We'd also like to thank the fisherman who discovered my mom's body," said Van Winkle. "We understand that he was very helpful and compassionate in all of this."

The Calgary woman had been missing since Dec. 29. She was last seen at her family home in the community of Strathcona in southwest Calgary around 6 p.m. MT.

Mykytiuk-Evans was known to suffer from depression. Police say the death is not considered suspicious.
