Child was dropped from dad's carrier after dog fight in northwest Calgary off-leash park

A five-month-old baby suffered minor injuries after an incident with a pit bull Wednesday evening.

The baby's father was walking the family dog in an off-leash area on the 100 Block of Bernard Drive N.W. at around 6 p.m. MT.

He was wearing a carrier sling with the baby in it.

When they crossed paths with two teenagers walking a pit bull, the two dogs began to fight.

As the father bent down to break it up, the baby fell out of the sling, police said.

The baby was taken to the Alberta Children’s Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Officials confiscated the pit bull.

On Friday, police told CBC News they have concluded their investigation, the matter is now with Animal Services.

  • This article originally reported that the baby had been bitten by the pit bull, as was initially reported by police. The city's Animal Services have since clarified that the dog did not actually bite the child.
