Gloria Sawai of Edmonton has been nominated for the Governor General's Literary Awards.

Gloria Sawai of Edmonton has been nominated for the Governor General's Literary Awards.

Sawai's nomination in the fiction category puts her in the same company as prominent Canadian authors Carol Shields and Wayne Johnston. She was nominated for her collection of short stories set on the prairies called, A Song for Nettie Johnson.

"I love it, it's just so exciting," says Sawai. "I had no idea anything like this would happen and I've just kind of had butterflies in my stomach all week."

Sawai says she actually found out she was nominated last week. But was told to keep it under her hat until the list of nominees was announced Monday.
