Victoria will host first Car Free day on Father's Day
Event inspired by Vancouver's Car Free days
If you are planning to visit downtown Victoria on Father's Day, leave the car at home because the city is celebrating it's first-ever Car Free day.
On June 21, six blocks of Douglas street will be closed to traffic from 12 to 6 p.m.PT. There will be public markets, live music and opportunities for the creative community to showcase their work.
The event is being organized by the Downtown Victoria Business Association.
"It's basically a celebration of community, when major streets are shut to not allow cars, but to welcome the community to come down and showcase whatever it is," says Ken Kelly, general manager of the D.V.B.A..
Kelly says he was inspired from the the success of Vancouver's car free days.
"It's an opportunity for people to enjoy Father's day. It's a time to be car free and carefree and we welcome everybody to join us."
