For the second year in a row, Bighorn at Revelstoke has won the World Ski Award for best ski chalet in the world.

The lodge has 16 spacious rooms, a private movie theatre, a private chef, and a private helipad for heli-skiers. A week at Bighorn starts at $65,000.

"We saw that there was a gap in the market for a high end heli-ski experience," owner Chris Kirkland told Daybreak South's Chris Walker.

Kirkland, who is based in London, said he was trying to create a more European ski experience for Canadian skiers.

"The idea was combining the classic model that we were so used to … in the Alps with that Canadian heli-skiing model and to create something new and exciting."

Despite the awards, building the business has taken time.

"This season it became viable is probably as much as I can say," said Kirkland, who opened the lodge in 2011.

He said word is getting out with about 90 per cent of this season's clients being repeat customers.
