Real Madrid soccer clinics coming to B.C. in July
Five-day clinics are offered to boys and girls aged 6 to 16
Soccer stars of the future get ready: Real Madrid is coming to B.C. this summer to run a series of clinics for players aged six to 16.
Kids who sign up for the July clinics — to be held in Burnaby, Richmond, North Vancouver and Surrey — will receive 90 minutes of coaching a day for five days.
The Spanish soccer team picked B.C. as its first stop in Canada because the province has become internationally known as a budding market for the professional players of the future, according to Ghendi Eideh who works at Real Madrid's foundation.
"With the final game of the FIFA Women's World Cup, it definitely added [Vancouver] to the map of soccer across the world," he said.
The clinics were announced in Vancouver Thursday, when the club donated a team jersey for auction, with proceeds to go to victims of the Fort McMurray fires.
The foundation hopes to hold clinics across the country next year.
Registration for the clinics can be made on the foundation's website.
