Up to 100 mm is expected by Tuesday night for the west coast of Vancouver Island, and up to 55 mm for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

B.C. may catch a break from the steady rain on Wednesday, as the back end of the same system swings through for Thursday and Friday.

This system is subtropical in nature, tapping into some Hawaiian air, so mild temperatures and rising freezing levels are forecast for the next few days.

CBC meteorologist Johanna Wagstaffe will be watching for rising avalanche risk and wet local mountains. Catch the full forecast on CBC Vancouver at 5, 5:40 and 6 p.m. PT.
