Coquitlam RCMP's Major Crime Section is investigating after a shooting sent one victim to hospital with multiple gunshot wounds Friday night.

The incident happened at about 10:30 p.m., on Wilson Avenue at Bury Avenue in Port Coquitlam.

Coquitlam RCMP Sgt. Tim Sylvestri said first responders and the RCMP Police Dog Service arrived in the area to find one victim, whose gender, age, and identity have not been released.

Sylvestri wasn't able to say how many shots were fired, but several shell casings could be seen on the road next to evidence markers, as police investigated the crime scene.

It's unclear if this was a drive-by shooting, but Sylvestri said the suspect fled and police do not have anyone in custody.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Coquitlam RCMP at (604) 945-1550, or contact Crime Stoppers.
