Vancouver police say an elderly pedestrian has been taken to hospital after being struck by a vehicle while using a crosswalk at Victoria Drive and Marine Drive.

Officers say the 71-year-old woman was struck by a silver-coloured mini-van that was travelling west around 1 p.m. PT.

Police say witnesses tried to help the woman and stayed with her until first responders arrived. She was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the van did not stop and left the area after the collision, according to police.
