Fire crews were busy battling a house fire overnight in South Vancouver.

It broke out around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at an abandoned house near Southeast Marine Drive and Kerr Street.

Witnesses told CBC News they could see flames above the treeline surrounding the house.

Assistant Chief Dan Stroup with Vancouver Fire Rescue Services said there was some potential for the fire to spread to the nearby trees, but crews were able to contain the blaze before it spread.
