Murder-suicide blamed for deaths in Coquitlam house fire
Police say the Benyoucef Assen killed his estranged wife Agnes Assen, then himself
A man and woman found dead after a Coquitlam, B.C., house fire last week died in a murder-suicide, homicide investigators have confirmed.
Police say the deceased man Benyoucef Assen killed his estranged wife Agnes Assen and then set the house on fire, killing himself.
Neighbours say the mother of three was recently separated from her husband. The home where she ran a French daycare had a sign out front indicating it was recently sold.
The fire broke out in the home at 1140 Cottonwood Avenue, near Como Lake Park, just after midnight July 9. Neighbours reported hearing a scream and bang before the fire broke out in an upstairs bedroom.
The home was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived, and crews later found the bodies inside the home.
