Join Little Miss Higgins as she serenades you during your lunch hour on Friday, July 13.

CBC Musical Nooners are free, live music concerts that happen every weekday on the CBC Vancouver outdoor stage at 700 Hamilton St., from noon to 1 p.m.

Born Jolene Higgins, Little Miss Higgins brings together a mix of blues and country music. She started playing music at a very young age when her father bought her an old piano from a local bar.

From there, Higgins went on to learn how to play the guitar and sing. This now makes up the foundation of her act. She says musical legends like Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan, and Joni Mitchell are her main influences.

Her 2007 album, Junction City, earned Little Miss Higgins JUNO and Maple Blues Awards nominations, as well as the award for Outstanding Blues Recording at the Western Canadian Music Awards.

Her most recent release, My Home, My Heart, features the Winnipeg Five band and another suite of songs that stay true to Little Miss Higgins' roots.

Aside from her Musical Nooners performance today, you can also catch Little Miss Higgins this weekend at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival at Jericho Beach.
