Joe Borg on selling Christmas trees for 34 years in Vancouver
Joe Borg says he sees families who are in their 4th generation of coming to his lot for their Christmas tree

Joe Borg has sold Christmas trees for 34 years and he says it all started because he "wanted to give back to the community."
People can buy their fresh Christmas tree from a number of places in Vancouver, some of which have been running for more than 40 years, like the one operated by the Vancouver South Lions Club in the John Oliver high school parking lot proceeds of which go to local charities.
Borg says it has become a multi-generational event for families.
"We're into our fourth generation of people coming into the lot because their parents or grandparents shop at our lot."
Candy canes and small cars
Borg says the kids really enjoy the lot, especially since the Lions volunteers started giving out candy canes.
"These little ones come back and that's what they remember — that they got a candy cane last year."
But finding the perfect Christmas tree is an activity for the whole family, he said.
"[The children's] eyes are all lit up because they've discovered this wonderful tree and the parents actually allow them to choose it."
And driving a small car is no obstacle to taking home a tree, said Borg.
He remembers someone who came to the lot in a car2go last year. That person took home a nine-feet tall Christmas tree.
"The stump of the tree [was] on the dashboard and seven feet of it is sticking out the back of it. We just had a great laugh."
