Human remains found near Whistler
Autopsy will be done to try to determine identity, age, gender of victim and cause of death
Homicide investigators are near Whistler, B.C. after a dirt biker discovered what appears to be human remains, just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has cordoned off the area near an unnamed industrial complex, 15 minutes south of Whistler.
Police say due to the state of decomposition, details such as identity, gender and the cause of death are unknown at this time.
"Our priority at this point is to identify this person, so that we can get in touch with their family," said Sgt. Stephanie Ashton.
"The remains are in an advanced stage of decomposition, so it may take some time at the actual scene to make sure we've gathered as much evidence as we can."
An autopsy will be done to piece together information about the circumstances surrounding the death, and investigators are also looking at missing person reports in the area.
