2 dead after crash on Highway 1 near Kamloops

Two people are dead after a crash that shut down Highway 1 in both directions for several hours 17 kilometres west of Kamloops, B.C., Saturday.

Two people are dead after a crash that shut down Highway 1 in both directions for several hours 17 kilometres west of Kamloops, B.C., Saturday.

The highway has since been reopened. 

Kamloops RCMP say officers responded to the head-on collision at 11:31 a.m. PT near the New Gold Mine turnoff. 

The two occupants of one of the vehicles died at the scene, police say.

The two people in the other vehicle — a pickup truck — were taken to hospital with injuries. 

Staff Sgt. Edward Preto said members from central interior traffic services and a traffic analyst have been called in to investigate.
