Heavy fog grounds West Coast regional flights again
Heavy fog is causing more delays for travellers on the West Coast again this morning, both in the air and on the water.
In Vancouver and Victoria both HeliJet and Harbour Air flights were on hold at 7 a.m. PT because of the weather. Float plane flights to and from Nanaimo and Comox were also cancelled. Staff said the conditions would be reviewed throughout the morning.
At Vancouver International Airport flights from Nanaimo, Campbell River, Comox, Smithers, Quesnel and Castlegar were also cancelled or delayed. No delays were reported at Prince George or Victoria airports.
BC Ferries reports the Powell River Queen on the Campbell River and Quadra Island route was having problems with its radar system, meaning it could not sail in the fog. That means travellers between will need to use a water taxi.
BC Ferries spokesman Darin Guenette says the ferry will go back into service when the fog clears or the radar is fixed.
The fog, which also grounded flights last week, is forecast to stick around until Wednesday, according to CBC meteorologist Johanna Wagstaffe.
