Fugitive Jenkins likely in Canada, RCMP confirms
Warning: This story contains disturbing details
In a written statement, police said specific details and evidence supporting that belief cannot be made public.
However, "the RCMP is now prepared to say that information believed to be credible suggests that Mr. Jenkins is presently in Canada," Sgt. Duncan Pound confirmed.
U.S. authorities have said Jenkins should be considered dangerous and may be armed with a gun.
Police hope he'll surrender voluntarily, Pound said.
"We want to make an appeal directly to Ryan to say let's ensure that nobody gets hurt – nobody around him, nobody in the public, no police and certainly not himself," he said.
"We're really hoping that he will make the right choice and turn himself in because obviously this is not something that's going to go away."
Investigators say they are pursuing a Canada-wide warrant for Jenkins's arrest. They are asking anyone with information to call their local police department, and caution anyone who sees Jenkins should call 911 immediately.
Police have run down a number of sightings of Jenkins that proved false, including a man taken off an Air Canada flight to Toronto from Vancouver on Friday night and another questioned aboard a Vancouver transit bus on the weekend.
The former bikini model's body was found stuffed in a trash bin in a park southeast of Los Angeles. Her teeth and fingers had been removed.
Fiore, 28, was identified through serial numbers on her breast implants. She was badly beaten and preliminary reports indicate she had been strangled.
The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $25,000 US reward for information leading to Jenkins' capture.
Earlier reports indicated Jenkins was believed to be in Canada after walking across the border into British Columbia.
