Fire destroys grow-op in abandoned South Surrey home

A large fire has destroyed an abandoned home in South Surrey, B.C. on Thursday morning.
The fire, in a forested section of 16 Avenue, just west of 176 Street, is now under control, and there are no reports of any injuries.
Deputy Fire Chief Karen Fry says there has recently been a marijuana grow-op in the house, but the power wasn't connected, and it remains unclear if it caused the fire.
"I can't say that the grow-op wasn't the cause of the fire. There's definitely evidence still on site of a previous marijuana grow operation on site, so there's lots of different ways they can power these things,"
Fry says crews were concerned the surrounding forest and a nearby neighbour's house would catch fire, but fortunately they were able to extinguish the fire without it spreading.
