Fire destroys 2 Maple Ridge homes
Crews battled at least 2 other fires nearby overnight, including debris fire and shed on fire
Lougheed Highway was closed in Maple Ridge as fire crews investigated a fire that destroyed two apparently unoccupied houses.
The fire began in the early hours of Friday morning in the 22100 block of Lougheed Highway. Maple Ridge fire crews arrived sometime just after 3 a.m. PT.
An official with the Maple Ridge fire department said at least one of the buildings appeared to be a grow-op.
Lougheed Highway between 216th Street and 222nd Street remained closed until around 6:00 a.m.
Maple Ridge fire crews responded earlier Friday morning to at least two other fires within a kilometre of the two-house fires — one a debris fire, and another at a shed —but officials have not said whether the fires are linked.
