In December, longtime CBC journalist and philanthropist Gloria Macarenko was appointed an Order of Canada for her contributions to Canadian broadcasting and for her charitable work. She will be honoured at a special event at Terminal City Club on May 15, 2019.

The luncheon honours the 2018 Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia recipients and will be hosted by CBC Vancouver's Stephen Quinn. Her Honour, the Honourable Janet Austin, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, will be the keynote speaker.

Established in 1967 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Order of Canada is the cornerstone of the Canadian Honours System, and recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.

The Order of British Columbia was established on April 21, 1989, to recognize those persons who have served with the greatest distinction and excelled in any field of endeavour benefiting the people of the Province or elsewhere.
