May 5 | Online

CBC British Columbia's Michelle Eliot hosts the annual Because Mothers Matter Awards, May 5, online.

The awards recognize prominent Canadian women as well as outstanding mothers from the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program. The selected women show a commitment to their communities and serve as models in leading social change and have exhibited extraordinary resilience as mothers throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year's honourees include Dr. Theresa Tam, Dr. Cindy Blackstock, Nusrat Awan and Jessica Seegerts while Sophie Grégoire Trudeau and Dr. Sharon Johnson will present the premiere of the Mothering During COVID-19 discussion series video featuring HIPPY mothers.

For over 20 years, the HIPPY program has been working in the home to support more than 14,000 vulnerable and isolated mothers in their critical role as their child's first and most important teacher. This virtual event supports the program and CBC Vancouver is proud to be the exclusive media partner.
