CBC Vancouver is proud to sponsor the Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF) – an online showcase of the very best in independent Asian cinema.

Michelle Eliot, host of BC Today. (CBC)

The virtual festival, now in its 24th year, runs Oct. 31 through Nov. 8, showcasing local and international Asian filmmaking beyond the mainstream. The 2020 edition offers expanded programming that reflects relevant, pressing issues faced by immigrants, women and marginalized individuals in its 46 films of all genres.

On Nov. 1 at 7 p.m., join BC Today's Michelle Eliot as she virtually hosts a special Q&A with ZhiMin Hu, the director of Ketchup & Soya Sauce, a documentary about the history of interracial relationships in Canada. Watch the trailer for the film here

VAFF's theme is What's Your 20? – a radio code used in the film industry that means, "where are you?" or "what's your location?," which, in this context, pays tribute to the current year and asks how the events of 2020 have impacted Asian heritage storytellers.
