(Victoria Film Festival)

CBC British Columbia is proud to sponsor the 27th annual online Victoria Film Festival – Vancouver Island's largest and longest-running film festival.

The 10-day virtual festival runs February 5-14 and features a diverse selection of 50 feature films, 23 shorts and exclusive Q&A's with filmmakers from around the world – all viewable from the comfort of home. The entire slate of films will be available across British Columbia, and can be streamed at any time during the festival.

Highlights of VFF 2021 include:

  • Vancouver Island productions: Local director Arnold Lim's first feature-length film, All-in Madonna, was shot in Victoria with a predominantly Island cast and crew. The festival also features a shorts program dedicated to local films with three additional Island productions.
  • Oscar contenders: Countries from around the world have submitted their films for contention in the Academy Awards race for Best International Feature Film. Three of them have been selected for the festival: Agnes Joy (Iceland), Charter (Sweden) and Once Upon a Time in Venezuela (Venezuela).
  • A Canadian premier: A new adaptation of the classic novel The Secret Garden, starring Colin Firth, will make its Canadian debut at the festival.
  • European award winners: Several films in the lineup have been generating buzz at festivals across Europe including Listen (Best Film, Venice Film Festival), The Big Hit (Best Comedy, European Film Awards) and The Metamorphosis of Birds (FIPRESCI  Best Film Award, Berlinale).
