An investigation has been launched after an elderly woman died following a house fire in B.C. Wednesday evening.
Firefighters were called around 7.30 pm PT Wednesday to reports of a fire in a two-storey house in the 45300 block of Westview Avenue.
After entering the property, officers located a 74-year-old woman suffering from severe injuries. She was taken to hospital and later died.
The RCMP and THE Chilliwack Fire Department are leading the investigation and are asking witnesses with information to come forward.
"Police do not suspect the fire was targeted or linked to other fires we have had in the area. The BC Coroners Service is engaged with the investigation," Cpl. Mike Rail said in a statement Thursday.
The woman has not yet been named.
