BC Place will host the Men's FIFA World Cup qualifying game between Canada and El Salvador on September 6. Fans can start buying tickets for the match today.

For over a decade, the men's national team did not play any World Cup qualifying games in Vancouver, but this match will mark its third in a row.

"Facilities were always a bit of an issue. The turf of BC Place was not up to international standards," said Victor Montagliani, president of the Canadian Soccer Association.

He said that changed after new turf was installed for the Women's FIFA World Cup final last year.

But the decision was also made with home field advantage in mind, "[The] coach feels the team plays well when it plays here," he said.

It has been 30 years since the Canadian men's national soccer team played in a world cup.

"We lack that last step to develop our players. What I call the professional step," he said.

"It takes a while for things to materialize," he said.
