Camper fire claims life of woman on west coast of Vancouver Island
RCMP are investigating but say the fire does not look criminal in nature
A 50-year-old woman is dead after a camper fire on the west coast of Vancouver Island.
Ucluelet RCMP were called to an area off a logging road near Kennedy Lake Provincial Park just before 5 a.m. on July 11.
When they arrived, they say they found the badly burned frame of a motorhome.
Police spoke with the man who owned the camper, who said he was outside when it caught fire. The woman and two dogs were inside.
Investigators from Vancouver Island's General Investigation Section and the Integrated Major Crime Unit are involved, along with the Ucluelet RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service.
A police statement says the investigation is expected to continue throughout the day, but, at this point, they do not believe it's a suspicious fire.
The remains have yet to be identified.
