Burnaby deaths a murder-suicide

The deaths of two people in an apartment in Burnaby last week has been ruled a murder-suicide by the RCMP.

RCMP have ruled the deaths of two people in an apartment in Burnaby last week a murder-suicide.

Police were called to an apartment complex in the 6000 block of Imperial Street last Wednesday after someone found the bodies.

The RCMP say 36-year-old Ruby Chiong and 45-year-old Robert Calvez had been romantically involved.

Calvez, the father of two young sons, was the manager of the building, and when he didn't show up for work, concerned co-workers went to his apartment where they discovered the dead couple.

There had been concerns about neighbourhood safety following the grim discovery, and police had tried to reassure residents of the area that a killer was not on the loose.

Reports that Calvez and Chiong had been involved in gambling and loansharking were false, say police.

At the request of family members, no other details will be released.
