Brush fire on north side of Burnaby Mountain contained

The Burnaby Fire Department has dispatched a number of fire crews to Burnaby Mountain after residents spotted a plume of smoke.

A brush fire that broke out on the north side of Burnaby Mountain around 10 a.m. PT Sunday has been contained.

The fire was only about 4.5 square metres in size but quite aggressive said Burnaby Deputy Fire Chief Chris Bowcott

It was located near the Cardiac Trail, north of but well away from Simon Fraser University.

Bowcott said the the department received support from the B.C. Wildfire Management Branch as well as a tactical fire suppression helicopter from Chilliwack.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
