B.C. wildfire evacuees return home
Authorities have lifted the evacuation order for the more than 250 residents forced out of their homes since Sunday due to a wildfire in Peachland, B.C.
"Effective at 5 p.m. [PT Wednesday] afternoon, the evacuation order will be rescinded for the entire area covering the District of Peachland and Central Okanagan West Electoral Area of the Regional District," Central Okanagan Emergency Operations said in a release.
Residents will be on evacuation alert and should be prepared to leave their homes again with little notice, the release said.
More than 1,100 other Peachland residents were allowed back into their homes Monday after being forced to leave Sunday due to a fast-moving wildfire.
There were no injuries but four houses were destroyed in the fire, which is now almost entirely contained.
