B.C. MLA charged with impaired driving
B.C. Liberal MLA Jane Ann Thornthwaite has been charged with impaired driving, following an incident during the Olympic Games.
Thornthwaite was stopped at an RCMP road check in North Vancouver on Feb. 23, on her way home from visiting two Olympic pavilions.
Special prosecutor Mark Jetté approved the charge on Wednesday after being appointed by the government to conduct an independent review of the case.
Thornthwaite was charged with one count of operating a motor vehicle while having a blood alcohol level over .08 BAC. Her first appearance is scheduled for May 12, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. PT in North Vancouver.
First elected in the North Vancouver-Seymour riding in the May 2009 general election, Thornthwaite is a former dietitian and chair of the North Vancouver Board of Education.
