Vernon woman last seen in the downtown core on surveillance video after leaving mental health facility

Aurelia Wedenig has been found dead in Vernon after a frantic search by her family who said she went on an afternoon walk, after leaving a residential care facility.
The 65-year-old woman with early onset dementia was last seen on Dec. 18 on surveillance video in the downtown core of Vernon.
An RCMP release said that friends and family found her body "in a thicket and grove of trees bordering a property" in the eastern end of 30th Ave. yesterday, five days after she vanished.
Search and Rescue crews joined with 24 volunteers to comb the Vernon area for the missing woman earlier this week. Despite this, and the use of a helicopter, no trace of her was found until Dec. 23.
