A mansion that stands as a unique piece of Vancouver history, virtually unchanged since 1925, is on the market - and likely eventually to be torn down, the CBC's Kirk Williams reports.

Marine Drive pile up for sale at $8.5M on lot valued at $9.8M

The Vancouver home, virtually unchanged since it was built, is on sale for $8.5 million 2:22

A Vancouver mansion that stands as a unique piece of the city’s history is on the market at a list price lower than the value of the property it’s on.

And it’s likely that whoever purchases the period home will buy it for the lot, and tear down the 87-year-old building.

When cleared, the two-acre parcel on Marine Drive would offer views of the Fraser River and the southern Gulf Islands beyond.

The 9,000-square-foot home, built in 1925 by Willard and Mary Kitchen for $10,000, is unrenovated.

It’s listed for $8.5 million.

The CBC’s Kirk Williams takes us on an exclusive look inside the mansion called Wilmar House.
