1 escaped Victoria prisoner found, 1 still at large

The West Shore RCMP have caught a convicted murderer who escaped from the William Head Federal Correctional Centre near Victoria Friday night, but say another inmate is still at large.

The West Shore RCMP have caught a convicted murderer who escaped from the William Head Federal Correctional Centre near Victoria Friday night, but warn another escaped inmate is still at large.

Brian Peter Patrick, 44, and Dean Allen Thomas Benton, 56, escaped the minimum-security facility, which is about 25 kilometres west of Victoria, around 11:00 p.m. PT.

Patrick was serving a life term for second-degree murder, while Benton was serving an eight-year sentence for multiple robberies.

Patrick was taken into custody without incident in Langford, near Belmont High School, Saturday morning.

Benton, who is still at large, is described as 183 centimetres tall with a tattoo on his left upper arm. He weighs 89 kilograms and has green eyes.

Benton is considered violent and should not be approached. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police or CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-222-TIPS.
