Brack captures pole for CART race at Rockingham

Kenny Brack captured the pole for the Rockingham 500 at the Rockingham Motor Speedway.

Brack completed the two-plus-kilometre lap in in a time of 24.908 seconds.

The pole victory was Brack's first of the season and the seventh of his CART career

"The Target guys did a fantastic job with the car this weekend," said Brack.

"We started pretty fast and we made a few good changes. We are really happy now."

Unlike the past seven weeks, where the series has competed on road and street courses, on oval circuits there is just one qualifying session.

The win earned Brack one championship point.

Starting on the front row with Brack, will be Mario Andretti, who posted a best time of 24.928 seconds.

Overall CART points leader Cristiano da Matta , Toranosuke Takagi and Dario Franchitti round out the top-five.

"The run was clean so I'm pretty happy," said da Matta.

With five races left, da Matta has a commanding lead with 175 points. Fellow Brazilian Bruno Junqueira is second with 123 points, followed by Scotsman Dario Franchitti who has 106.

Toronto's Paul Tracy in the Team KOOL Green Honda qualified seventh; Alex Tagliani of Lachenaie, Que was ninth, and Patrick Carpentier of Joliette, Que will start from the 10th spot.

The race is scheduled to begin on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. ET.
