Acadian Day assault trial resumes
The Acadian flag trial resumed Thursday in Burton. Eric Cyr, a Francophone, is charged with assaulting a member of the province's Anglo Society.
Last summer, the Acadian flag was to be raised at Fredericton City Hall during Acadian Day celebrations. Demonstrators from the Anglo tried to disrupt the ceremony and a scuffle broke out. Matthew Glenn claimed Cyr assaulted him during the incident.
The issue has tested English-French relations. The Anglo Society is angry the trial is being conducted in French. Acadians say it is their right under law.
The trial is expected to wrap up this week.
