2 sailors hurt in Canadian navy sub exercises
The Canadian navy is investigating after two sailors were injured when a submarine struck bottom during weekend training exercises off Vancouver Island.
HMCS Corner Brook was conducting submerging manoeuvres Saturday in the area of Nootka Sound, off the west coast of the island, said navy spokesman Gerry Pash.
The sailors, whose names weren't released, suffered minor injuries.
Shortly after the sub struck bottom, as the crew was participating in advanced officer training, the 60-person crew brought the ship to the surface to conduct safety checks.
Pash said no fuel was released into the environment, and Corner Brook was scheduled to return Sunday to Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, near Victoria.
