Boyfriend arrested in Kyla death investigation
Durham Regional Police have arrested the boyfriend of an Oshawa girl who was found dead in Whitby on Monday.
The body of Kyla Holburn, 16, was discovered just before 7 p.m. Monday outside an apartment building on Nichol Street.
Police said the victim showed obvious signs of trauma, but an autopsy conducted Tuesday failed to determine a cause of death.
On Wednesday, homicide officers arrested a 21-year-old man at a Clarington home on a breach of recognizance charge.
They alleged that the Oshawa man violated a December court order by contacting Kyla on the day she died.
Toxicology tests have been ordered to try to determine what killed the girl. Results are not expected for several weeks.
Durham Police Chief Kevin McAlpine has said investigators believe Kyla died somewhere other than where her body was found.
The investigation continues.
