Pompeii was destroyed during an eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The ruined and partially buried city was rediscovered in 1738 and excavated. Today it's one of the most important archaelogical finds — and tourist attractions — of all time.

Now, thanks to technology and Google Street View, you can explore the ancient city without buying a plane ticket to Italy.
