Giant Slalom champ Manuel Feller goes head to head on the slopes with 80s legend Marc Girardelli — a challenge that Girardelli, despite not having competed in two decades, is ready for.  But the evolution in ski technology is significant. Modern skis have a much shorter turning radius than vintage ones, which allows athletes to keep their skis down and carve tightly through the gates. In the 80s Girardelli had to step at every turn to keep his momentum.

To test how much of a difference this new technology makes, both skiers race the same course twice — one with the new skis and then with the old ones. And although the new skis improved performance for both champs, the cross-generational matchup was closer than either of them had predicted.
