Watch Terri Clark discuss her path to stardom ahead of her Canadian Music Hall of Fame induction
The award-winning country singer will be inducted on May 18 in Calgary
Country singer-songwriter Terri Clark is one of this year's Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees, and will hit the stage to perform at the induction ceremony on May 18. Viewers can watch live at CBCMusic.ca/junos.
In the video above, Clark breaks down her journey to stardom. Following her high school graduation, Clark moved from Medicine Hat, Alta., to Nashville, Tenn. to launch her career. She spent nearly a decade working jobs ranging from waitressing to selling shoes while writing music on the side. After getting signed, she released her eponymous debut album in 1995. The record was filled with earnest lyricism and became a success, with the hit single "Better Things to Do," landing at No. 3 on the country music charts in Canada and the U.S.
Clark continued releasing music and in 2004, she made history by becoming the first Canadian woman member of the Grand Ole Opry. "I still can't believe I'm an Opry member," Clark says.
Twelve albums later, Clark has three Juno Awards, 19 Canadian Country Music Awards and has been inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.
"I look at the list of people who have been inducted into this and now I feel like I'm part of a club that I'm waiting to get kicked out of again," Clark says with a laugh about her upcoming induction.
The Canadian Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony presented by Music Canada will stream live from Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre (NMC) in Calgary. Jann Arden, Ranee Lee and more will induct this year's honourees, which include Clark, Diane Dufresne, Trooper and Dr. Oliver Jones.
