Shawnee releases 'Don't Go' to celebrate Pride Month
The single from the Searchlight 2020 winner is available today
June is Pride Month, and Searchlight 2020 winner Shawnee is celebrating by releasing a summery, upbeat new single called "Don't Go."
Shawnee is a two-spirit Mohawk artist who uses her platform to advocate for Indigenous youth, mental health and the LGBTQ2+ community through her work with foundations like Kids Help Phone and We Matter. Earlier this year, the Edmonton-based artist won Searchlight from a pool of more than a thousand submissions with her anthemic, alt-pop song "Building a Wall."
Her new single finds her exploring a more '80s-influenced, synth-pop sound.
"This is something new, fun, lighthearted but still me," she said via press release. "It's the track you'll just want to turn up in the car and jam to."
Take a listen to "Don't Go" below.
