What's On: TIFF closes this weekend, but there's lots more happening

The extravaganza that is TIFF continues through Sunday. But there are smaller film festivals on cinema screens this weekend, which are also worth your while. And there's even more!

Caribbean Tales International Film Festival
Until Sept 13
Royal Cinema

The festival wraps up this weekend with spotlight on Queer Caribbean and Canadian Caribbean themed films. Local filmmaker Richard Fung will be in attendance to answer question after the screening of his film Dal Puri Diaspora.

CommFest Festival

Rainbow Cinema

This a festival focuses its lens on movies that brings communities together. On screen this weekend, a series of short from around the world, all for the price of one ticket.

New Groundswell Festival
Sept 8 - Sept 14
Distillery District

This year there will be two workshop productions, Obeah Opera, by
composer/librettist Nicole Brooks and directed by Weyni Mengesha, and With
Individual Desire written by Susanna Fournier and directed by Kelli Fox. The festival also presents an industry series, with play reading, provocative public conversations and networking opportunities.

Toronto Ukrainian Festival

Bloor West Village

The Festival takes pride in turning its spotlight on contemporary professional and amateur artists and performers from North America and Ukraine, and in celebration of Toronto's diversity, invites a local performing group representing another culture to bring its talents to the main stage each year.

Roncesvalles Polish Festival

They say they are the last street festival of summer. This may well be true. They are also North America's largest celebration of Polish culture in Toronto's best neighbourhood! And they have it all -- from a polka party to pierogies and kielbasa. And we can say is Cześć!

Summer of Dreams Fun Fair

Featuring yummy food and all the delights of a fun fair -- from bouncy castle to carnival games -- this event benefits Street Haven at the Crossroads, the city's oldest women's Emergency Shelter.
