Errol's Pick

"They Promised You Mercy" is the title of Amelia Curran's latest album. The acclaimed singer-songwriter from the East Coast is in town tomorrow and our music columnist Errol Nazareth says that with each album she releases, Curran solidifies her reputation as one of our country's premier songwriters. "They Promised You Mercy" is a beautiful record filled with engaging, poetic songs about personal experiences which are all delivered in her dusky voice. Late last year, Curran made a video that got a lot of attention. It featured several East Coast celebrities like Rick Mercer and Alan Doyle, and Curran says the goal was to raise awareness around mental health issues. Curran, who has spoken publicly about her struggle with mental illness, told CBC News she approached the Canadian Mental Health Association and asked if it would help if she made a video about her situation. Curran said, "I just wanted to communicate my own story of suffering with anxiety, the difficulty of getting a diagnosis. It was inspiring the amount of people who came out. And everyone who was in that video had a story". @ErrolNazareth
