I wrestle with the idea of a top ten list. My top film pick changes from day to day. So consider the first four as my choice for best film of the year, depending on the day! The others were beautifully made movies that gave me real joy even when the subject matter was a bit dark.

"12 Years a Slave", "Her", "Inside Llewyn Davis", "Wolf of Wall Street", "Gravity", "Frances Ha", "All Is Lost", "The Hunt", "Philomena", "Dallas Buyer's Club", "The Way Way Back", "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug", "The Hunger Games:Catching Fire", "Star Trek: Into Darkness", "Before Midnight", "About Time", "Enough Said", "How I Live Now", "Mud", "Out of the Furnace", and "American Hustle".
