OMAR DABAGHI-PACHECO NAMED PERMANENT HOST OF CBC OTTAWA NEWS AT 6

Nov 01, 2022

OTTAWACBC Ottawa today announced that Omar Dabaghi-Pacheco has been named the permanent anchor of CBC Ottawa News at 6, CBC Ottawa’s flagship news show.

Born and raised in Ottawa, Dabaghi-Pacheco brings a wealth of experience to the role.

As a reporter, Omar is known for his pursuit of documentary storytelling. This work has taken him across Canada and to remote areas in Africa including Malawi and Tanzania.

He joined CBC Ottawa in 2010 and since then he has covered Ottawa's biggest breaking news stories. In 2010, Omar covered the abduction and killing of an Ottawa-area businessman. In 2016, he was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for best local reporting on the 2014 Parliament Hill shooting. In 2018, he covered the 2018 Ottawa tornados which brought a wave of destruction that upended tens of thousands of lives.

“I thrive in adventurous environments full of ever-changing tasks,” says Dabaghi-Pacheco. “CBC Ottawa has never stopped challenging me in that way. Delving into the stories of the community I call home has been one of the greatest privileges and highlights of my professional life. Being named the permanent host of CBC Ottawa’s News at 6 is an absolute honour.”

From his background as a video journalist, to his time as a national breaking news host, to hosting network specials on Radio One – the common thread for Omar has always been his passion for telling stories from a community perspective and his ability to connect with people.

Since the age of six, Omar's mother raised him while backpacking the world for three months out of every year. A true citizen of the world with deep Ecuadorian and Lebanese roots, Omar is also fluently quadrilingual in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.

“Omar is an insightful journalist, a talented broadcaster and an exceptional leader,” says Drake Fenton, Managing Editor of CBC Ottawa. “We couldn’t be more excited for him to step into this role. With the passion he holds for this city and journalism, I can’t think of a more perfectly suited person to be the face of CBC Ottawa.”

Dabaghi-Pacheco lives in Ottawa with his partner and child. When he’s not chasing the latest breaking news, you can find him giving paragliding lessons as a professional instructor.
