ANNE WITH AN E and SCHITT’S CREEK collect top awards during broadcast gala
CBC and its production partners were recognized with 52 Canadian Screen Awards from The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television during 2019 Canadian Screen Week. The Canadian Screen Awards honour excellence in scripted, unscripted, documentary, news, sports and digital programming. The broadcast gala aired Sunday evening on CBC and the free CBC Gem streaming service.
CBC earned 45 awards at galas earlier in the week and took home an additional three for film and four for television programming at the cinematic arts and broadcast galas, respectively, this weekend. At the broadcast gala, CBC won Best Drama Series for ANNE WITH AN E, its second win in the category, and Best Comedy Series for SCHITT’S CREEK. Catherine O’Hara won Best Lead Actress, Comedy, honouring her role as Moira Rose in SCHITT’s CREEK for the fourth consecutive year - joining her fellow cast member, Best Supporting Actress winner Emily Hampshire, as the first comedic actresses to accomplish this feat in the history of the Canadian Academy. Amybeth McNulty won Best Lead Actress, Drama for the first time, honouring her title role in ANNE WITH AN E.
Additionally, CBC’s influential sketch comedy show THE KIDS IN THE HALL was recognized with the Academy Icon Award, presented by Eric McCormack to Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch and Scott Thompson during the broadcast gala.
