John Northcott

John Northcott puts people at the centre of all that he does as a journalist. From Toronto to Tokyo, Kansas City to Kirkland Lake, The Bronx to Bangkok; wherever he goes, Northcott tries to find the human heart of every story he does.

Northcott is an award-wining reporter who was one of the first to file simultaneously for radio, television, and the web. He is a pioneering Video journalist, who has taken his camera to three continents covering a wide range of stories, from municipal corruption, politics, natural disasters, crime, the arts, environment, and social issues such as women's rights, AIDS, and homelessness.

Northcott has lived in Toronto, London, England, and Tokyo. He also enjoys getting to New York and Washington DC whenever possible to pursue his passion for American politics, (and Maryland crab cakes!) Either for work or for pleasure, Northcott has travelled to over 50 countries, and plans on seeing many more.

He also enjoys inspiring journalists of the future and has lectured and mentored young people in Canada, Thailand, India, Japan, Vietnam, and Hong Kong.

In addition to his many happy years at CBC, he worked for numerous other broadcasters, and has been known to turn up on PBS, NPR, BBC, NHK, and the Discovery Channel.

These days, Northcott spends much of his time as a breaking news reporter and anchor for CBC News Network and CBC Radio.

There's nothing Northcott appreciates more than when viewers and listeners stop him to say hello.

When he's not gathering or breaking news, Northcott enjoys vintage vehicles of all kinds, especially old pickup trucks and wooden boats.
