Franco Siutiapik Buscemi

Franco Buscemi is a married father of four from Iqaluit, Nunavut. By day, he works as the general manager for the local fuel company, and by night he toils as a comedian who is constantly working to perfect his stand-up routine. One of Franco’s goals is to reintroduce and strengthen the traditional “provider” role in the North. During the spring, Franco gets up as early as 4:00 a.m., jumps on his snowmobile and goes for a morning hunt before work, often ptarmigan, arctic hare and seal. He also heads out on two or three day trips to camp with his family. Franco shares his harvest with his family, Elders and neighbours. Food sharing has always been an important part of Inuit culture. Franco is keen to continue the tradition and knows how important it is for the community. With ambitions to enter politics to enact real change in his community, Franco plans to run in next year’s election. He’s trying to set an example for the next generation.
