TIPS: How to avoid pharmacy errors

How can you avoid pharmacy errors? Here's our prescription to help you feel better:

  1. Know your pharmacist: Develop a relationship with one you trust and who will answer your questions.
  2. Keep an updated list of all the prescriptions you're on, and make sure your pharmacist has an updated list in your file
  3. Keep a copy of your prescription: Check the dose and drug against the original to make sure there are no differences
  4. Renewing your prescription? Check your new medication against your old one; if they look different, ask why
  5. Check the name on the prescription bottle to make sure you didn't get someone else's prescription.
  6. When you pick up a prescription, ask if it interacts with anything else you're taking.
