We reached out to Aldo Accessories and Ardene about the results of our investigation. Both declined to speak with us on camera. Here's how the companies responded:
On January 7, Ardene sent a subsequent statement by email:
Dear Ms. Bridge,
As we have previously advised, none of the products you have tested are children’s jewellery items.
With respect to all of our products, Ardene is committed to providing its customers with quality products at affordable prices. To do so, we work with vendors and manufacturers both domestically and abroad.
Due to the competitive nature of our industry, we do not divulge the specific names or contact details of our suppliers. We can, however, assure our customers that we expect only the highest ethical standards from all of our business partners, including vendors and manufacturers.
We are in touch with our vendors and manufacturers to advise them of our standards, and the requirement that they be in full compliance with our standards. In fact, we are continually working to enhance our communications with vendors and manufacturers to ensure that this process is as effective as possible.
